Teacher Feedback

Today I showed my video to my other teacher Mr Michie. He stated that he liked the music video however the main improvement that he suggested was that the pace needed to be picked up right after I got into the car. This is because he felt that the video slowed down when the music started to pick up. One of his suggestions to improve this was that the car should be driving off immediately after the lights come on. He also suggested that the camera work needed to be improved in order for the video to sustain its atmosphere. I will take these improvements on board for when I go out and shoot more footage.

Feedback from music video first draft

Today in class we presented the first drafts of our main tasks. The main objective of this was to gain feedback from everyone for what was going well with the project and what needed improving. This will help me in improving my project when I go to re-shoot it in the future.

The main strengths that I received were that the music was interesting and kept the audience engaged with the video and fitted well in general. This is very helpful to me because I now know that I am on the right track and the idea is intriguing to some extent. Furthermore, people said that the editing of the shots and transitions between them fit well with the music. This is good because I know that I should keep editing the video like this as it seems work very well. It was also suggested that I used a good range of shots in the video such medium shots and close ups which is good because this keeps the audience engaged with the video itself along with the music.

People have also suggested a lot of improvements to the video that could be made to make it a better music video. Some of the main improvements that have been suggested our that there needs to be some colour correction in order to make the shots look good and effective and night time. It was also suggested that some of the shots were held for too long and so i need to try and create some more shots to maybe keep the viewer interested. I also got a lot of feedback suggesting that the colour of the title makes it hard to read and so I should think about maybe changing the colour or increase the spacing between the letters to make it much clearer to the audience. Some also stated that it was hard to see the narrative/purpose of the video and so maybe I should work on trying to improve the way the narrative is told and to try and give the character more of a purpose.

Music poster advertisement Second draft

This is the second draft of my poster advertisement for my digi-pack. I have kept the same layout from my first draft as from my research I think this works best in terms of an advertisement poster. I have mainly tweaked the colours of the poster and have also added the updated version of my digi-pack to the poster. I think matching the font and colour of the digi-pack is essential as from my research into posters and digi-packs this is how artists create a brand for themselves and so I have chosen this route as well.

Digi-Pack second draft

This is my second draft for my Digi-pack ancillary task. I have made the image a lot more striking in its appearance by changing the background to a purple and blue smoke. I have done this as I think it suits the theme of the music video and the whole synth-wave genre. I have also changed the font and made it pink to make it stand out more, however I still feel that I could change this a bit to suit the overall theme of the music video and the genre of music. I also still need to create the other sides of the digi-pack to expand on what I have already done.

Editing first draft

Today I finished editing the the footage from my film shoot the other day and have managed to put together my first draft. I edited the footage in Premier Pro as I feel this program is best equipped with what I need and i also know how to use the program well. For the moment the only editing done was cutting and putting the clips together to create cohesive video that will provide the basis for my other drafts, almost like a template. I also added the music audio to the video by downloading it and dragging it into Premier Pro. I then synced the audio to match the video in the way I envisioned it would play out during my planning stages. Overall I am happy with the first edit and the editing session went well in terms of what I wanted to achieve.

Here is a screenshot of me in the middle of the editing process for this first draft. At this moment in time I was going through the clips on the preview screen in the top left hand corner to check which ones I would be able to use and which ones should be deleted. This was also before I had put the audio in the video as you can see in the bottom right there is no audio there yet. Again i am happy using Premier Pro as my primary editing software.

First Shoot

Today I went out and filmed the footage that will be used to create my first draft. I thad to be a night time shoot as this is one of the main features of my music video. This presented a big challenge to me because it created a lot of lighting issues. To overcome this we shot mainly in places that were well lit so that the video had a cutting edge aesthetic to it. I had time constraints and so I have only filmed the scenes for the first half of the video and so I will need to go out and film again. After I have edited the video together and gotten feedback i will know if I need to re-shoot any of the footage that I have gathered today.
