Editing first draft

Today I finished editing the the footage from my film shoot the other day and have managed to put together my first draft. I edited the footage in Premier Pro as I feel this program is best equipped with what I need and i also know how to use the program well. For the moment the only editing done was cutting and putting the clips together to create cohesive video that will provide the basis for my other drafts, almost like a template. I also added the music audio to the video by downloading it and dragging it into Premier Pro. I then synced the audio to match the video in the way I envisioned it would play out during my planning stages. Overall I am happy with the first edit and the editing session went well in terms of what I wanted to achieve.

Here is a screenshot of me in the middle of the editing process for this first draft. At this moment in time I was going through the clips on the preview screen in the top left hand corner to check which ones I would be able to use and which ones should be deleted. This was also before I had put the audio in the video as you can see in the bottom right there is no audio there yet. Again i am happy using Premier Pro as my primary editing software.

First Shoot

Today I went out and filmed the footage that will be used to create my first draft. I thad to be a night time shoot as this is one of the main features of my music video. This presented a big challenge to me because it created a lot of lighting issues. To overcome this we shot mainly in places that were well lit so that the video had a cutting edge aesthetic to it. I had time constraints and so I have only filmed the scenes for the first half of the video and so I will need to go out and film again. After I have edited the video together and gotten feedback i will know if I need to re-shoot any of the footage that I have gathered today.

Main Issues with filming

One of the key issues that I am going to come across during filming is creating effective lighting. This is because my film is going to be at night time and so if the correct lighting is not used then the film will not look very good and will be too dim. I need to come up with some lighting techniques that will help ensure that my music video look look clear and good. I have learnt some lighting techniques from the film noir that we created in groups a while ago. These include using a primary light and then secondary light to create clear images and shadows which proved to be very effective. I can use this for the scenes that I am driving because it will help to make the scene more clear to the audience. One of the main struggles for filming at night is that the lighting needs to look realistic and not overexposed so that the audience can tell lighting has been used. To fix this I can use some natural light within the video for example street lights can be used as a primary light source for making the scene look realistic. To improve this I can set the camera to a narrow aperture so that the shots are sharp from the foreground to the background, ensuring that the image looks clear with the lighting.

Animatic

Here is my animatic that I have created from the storyboard that I have made. This will be very important to look at when I am going to shoot my video as it give me a brief idea of how the video will look if it does correctly. This also informs me on if I should make any changes to what I am going to be filming or not and at the moment I am happy with most of what I have got. This also allows me to know if the video will reach the appropriate time limit that is required for the video which mine does. I think some of the shots that I have thought of could be shortened slightly after making this animatic.

Feed Back from Digi-Pack First Draft

Today in class we each presented our first mock ups of the ancillary tasks. I showed what I had done so far which was the front cover of my Digi-Pack. The purpose of this presentation was to identify what is good about the first draft and what could be improved upon.

The main strengths that I received were that the rain effect looked very good while the cover also had a good choice of font. People also suggested that it was visually engaging and that the contrasted colours worked together.

As for the improvements, people said that the text could not be seen very well because of the pink and black colours used. It was also suggested that I make the blue and purple colours darker to create a more dark tone which connects better with the music genre of Sound wave. People also said the maybe the road should be manipulated as it tails off so that it is not as clear to create depth.

For my next draft I will try to incorporated some of the improvements that have been suggested while also maintaining the strengths that are already there. This feedback was very helpful to me because I will now be able to further develop on my ancillary tasks.

Music poster advertisement first draft

This is my first draft of my Music poster advertisement ancillary task. I have decided to go with the approach of making it similar to the digi-pack/album cover because this will help my audience identify with the album. The text used is still a work in progress and I have placed these here just to get a template and idea of what I want the final product to look like. This includes the font style and colour of the font. At the bottom of the advertisement I have put the logos of the streaming sites Spotify, Tidal, and Apple Music so that people know where to find the album and therefore make it and effective advertisement poster.

Location

Here are some pictures of my location scouting and where I would mainly like to film my music video.

This is the location where I would like to shoot the first scenes of my character getting in the car. I think that this car park is a suitable location as it provides good light sources which will be crucial in filming at night time.

This is the location where I will shoot the scene of me getting out of the car and walking away. I think this is also a good location as it provides very good lighting for a night time shoot. It is also a very quite road and so I will not be disturbed when trying to film here and I can film rather easily without too much struggle which will be essential.

Here is the location for the scenes of me walking around. Again these locations provide solid lighting for me to work with and so is a good location to shoot.

Casting

For my video I will only be needing one person to act within the music video. This makes casting much easier because I will not need to look for a whole different range of people to act in the video. I have decided to cast myself as the only actor within the music video. This is because I know the kind of character that needs to be portrayed for the video and also will be convenient for me not having to rely on other actors to help out.

Below is a picture of me as the character from a test shot of me in the car which I think provides enough evidence that I should play this role.

Digi-pack First Draft

This is the first draft for my Digi pack ancillary task for my new idea. I used the program photoshop to create this digi-pack because I feel this is the easiest way to create it.

Here is the front cover of my Digi-pack. This is one of the most important parts of the product because it needs to identify with the audience what the album is about while also appearing intriguing at the same time. I am working in the electronic genre of music and so to show this I have taken inspiration from other media that works in this area. Examples of this include Kavinsky's album 'Outrun' where I tried to include similar colour themes and images. I also looked at the film 'Drive' which uses similar music within its soundtrack and so I used a similar font colour and design. I positioned the road towards the left and then going out to try and capture the audiences attention. I have only placed the text on the image as a template for the font that I eventually find and so is only temporary. I may also think about changing the background of this cover because I think I could find something better suited to the synth-wave genre. Overall this gives me something good to work towards.

Monday 7 December 2015

New storyboard

This is the establishing shot of the music video which i think will last for around 15 seconds because it will also involve a mini title sequence within this shot to establish the video. It will be very dark to connote the main themes of the video. Ambient music will start to play.
This will be a long shot of me walking to the car which will last for about 5 seconds. The Mise en Scene will be slightly brighter as there will be a street light within the shot. The ambient music starts to pick up a little bit.

This close up shot will last for about 4 seconds as I will also be getting in the car. The music will still be a bit ambient as it is still building up.
Another close up shot which will only last for about 3 seconds. It will be well lit as it would be hard to see the black images within the frame otherwise.

This close up shot of the speed dials will last for about 3 seconds and will involve the lights coming on. The music will start to kick in a lot more within this shot.
This shot of the car driving off will last for about 5 seconds to try and keep the suspense going.

Props and equipment

For my video I am going to need some props to help tell the story while also providing some more visual imagery and variety to the video. In addition to this, the equipment will also be essential to the video because it will be what makes or breaks how it will look visually.

Below is a list of props that will be needed for the video.

-Car
-Clothes (Leather Jacket)

Equipment list:

- GoPro camera
- DSLR camera
- Phone Light
- Primary Light

All this equipment will be essential to the filming process. This is because lighting at night time well be the main challenge of filming and so I need to have the correct lighting equipment to ensure that the video looks as good as possible. A GoPro camera will be helpful to have because it is a lot easier to film inside the car as it can film instantly and is a lot more easier to move around while also have top quality.

Shot list

I have now created a shot list for my video so that I will be able to map out in my head how my video will work and how effective the shots I have will be. This will then help me develop my storyboard so that I can get a better understanding of my video and then eventually create an animatic so that I can see how my video will work and if what I have decided to do will be a good enough music video that works well.

1. Establishing shot of the road moving along

2.  Super Long shot of protagonist walking to the car

3. Cut to long shot of being near the car

4. close up shot of protagonist opening the door and getting in

5. Super Close up shot of the car keys being turned

6. close up shot of the cars dashboard lit up showing speed dials

7. medium shot of car driving off into the distance

8. over the shoulder shot of protaganist driving the car

9. cuts to side on medium shot of protagonist in car

10. long shot of alternative character walking towards the camera

11. cuts back to medium shot of the protagonist in the car front on

12. long shot of car moving along the road

13. another long shot of alternative character walking along the pavement

14. over the shoulder shot of protagonist in the car

15. Cuts to sped up footage of long shot of the road when music picks up

16. medium shot of alternative character walking

17. close up shot of protagonist in the car front on

18. medium shot of alternative character facing side on to the camera

19. cuts to long shot of character walking along the road

20. wide shot of protaganist in the car

21. cuts to long shot of car pulling up

22. close up zoom in to protagonists face

23. long shot of alternative character walking away

24. cuts back to same long shot of car pulled up on the road

25. Close up of the protagonist side on view

26. extreme long shot of car pulling up on the side of the road

27. Tarantino shot of getting skateboard out the boot of the car

28. Changes to medium shot of walking away from the car

29. extreme long shot of walking into the distance with the skateboard

I think that this shot list will be very helpful in me deciding how my video will work and if any changes will need to be made.

Choosing the Music

I have now chosen the music that I am going to use in my music video. It is the song titled 'Night City' by the artist Vogel. This is a song that is in the sound-wave genre which is what I want to base my video off of and will help me create the video that I want to make. The artist Vogel has given me permission to use his music via email and so it is okay to use this copyrighted music. I have chosen this song specifically out of all his other work because it has a very dark tone to it however is also very vibrant and links to the imagery of driving.

Here is a screenshot showing me asking for permission to use Vogels music and him replying saying that it will be okay to do so. This now allows me to now work and figure out how I want to use this music to my advantage to create a good music video.

Changing my idea

Through various occurring problems with producing my first idea, I have decided to change it.This is because there were issues with how I was going to shoot with the green screen and how it would not work out in post production. I also started to lose track of where the project was going and that I felt it just was not working out. I also could not find anyone willing to sing the lyrics that I had created and so a video with this many problems was just not going to work very well when the final product was made.

I have now decided to go with the idea that was one of my first which was to create an electronic music video about someone going on a journey of discovery using the visuals of manly a car. I feel that this will work much better than my previous idea because I have a strict focus on what i want to achieve and how to achieve it. The video would consist of someone walking and driving through various parts of the world to try and discover themselves and who they are while also looking at the world as it is. This requires rather ambient electronic music I feel and so I will look into finding a suitable track that will work with the video and for the project as a whole. The main genre of music that this style would work best with is the Sound Wave genre which is a sub-genre of electronic music and has been used in previous projects similar to this idea. I feel that this new idea has a much better theme to it and would work much better. The video would take place at night time as I fell that this would add to the theme of electronic music, through my research this is a common theme within electronic music. Obviously this idea also comes with some challenges however I am certain that this one will work.

Lyrics for video

These are the lyrics that I have created for my music video. I have done this to try and add some more emotional weight to what is happening within the video to provide some context. The lyrics are mainly focused around the destructive nature of humans and each verse is divided into different topics where the world is going insane. The lyrics are meant to match the pace and tone of Bob Dylan's original lyrics and also match the instrumentals.

First Digi-Pack Mock up

Here is my first mock up of a Digi-Pack. Its just here to display some of the ideas that I have for when creating the actual Digi-Pack. First off, I'm trying to get the right blend of a minimal looking album while also capturing the heart and soul of the album by using bright and nice colours in general. I want to do this because it presents an album that has a lot going with it and so thats why there are lots of wild colours to display the idea that it is an interesting album. This album mock up does essentially use the same design as Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' however is given a different feel to it by the use of colour, in a way a kind of Coldplay vibe is presented I feel. The font that I have gone with is a kind of graffiti font that I think looks good with the white wall back drop behind it. This also evokes a kind of fun and playful vibe for the album because it also has the nice colours of blue and red while also seeming very bubbly in character. This is my first mock-up and so I will create another Digi-Pack with perhaps a different tone to it so that I can decide later on which theme I am going to go with. I think this one definitely brings a pop appeal side to it or alternative rock with bright melodies expected within the album, which in turn suggests that the music is very jumpy and fun.

Evaluation Questions

Throughout the course of creating my project I need to ensure that I use these evaluation questions in the process so that I can address them towards the end of the project when I am evaluating it.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I will need to make sure that I follow and challenge the forms and conventions of real media products so that my prodcuts will stand out and fit the criteria of what makes a music video, Digi-Pack and Advertisement poster. Looking at my research will be the easiest way to do this and decifer what I need to inlucde in my video.

How effective is the combination of your main and ancillary texts?

When creating my Digi-Pack and poster I will make sure to create links with the music video as well. This is vital to creating a brand for my products adnd it ties it all together so that the audience can understand what I have made.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

My audience feeback willl be key when reviewing my products becuase I need to be able to say what I changed in my product becuase of the audience feeback and why I did this. Audience feeback is crucial first hand evidence as it gives me an idea on what I need to work on and what I should be making overall.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

I will need to make sure that I use a wide variety of new media technologies within my work and suggest how this helped me with creating my project. The new media technologies that I plan to use at the moment consist of, DLSR camera, GoPro camera, Blogger, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere pro and a tripod.

Storyboard

This is the storyboard for my idea that I have at the moment. I have mainly focused on the shot types that I will be using and given a basic idea of what the video will look like just based off pictures. I am trying to ensure that a variety of shots is used to make sure that I meet the criteria for the video. From shots One through to Six I am focussing on creating a stop motion section of the film in which a globe will rotate around in circle to give the immediate impression of the idea represented in the video that this is a problem that affects everyone. Moving on the video starts to focus in on a man on TV discussing the various problems. A penny is then shown dropping and from my research I discovered that close up shots are used  lot to imply significance to something/someone. This is helping me trying to establish the story type video that i am going for.

My idea

I have decided from my mind map that I will go with the idea of a story line based song with lyrics connecting to the music video. I will also not be using copyrighted music and so the idea that has first come to my mind is to create a music video based of Bob Dylan's song 'Subterranean homesick blues' but with my own lyrics over the song instead which is in the genre of country/rock. I have chosen not do electronic music as I have not found many suitable candidates for a song that I would use and feel that this kind of video can still work within this genre of music. I have chosen this idea because I feel like it could work quite well when including the ideas that were also used in the real music video.  I would film myself holding up signs using various different shots to demonstrate this while also telling a story. Some of the problems facing this idea is using that the track would be without lyrics and therefore I feel like it would be quite hard to tell the story with only a guitar playing. I would also create my own lyrics to go over the instrumental which would match what was happening in the video. It will also be a challenge because of the green screen concept that I would like to incorporate for a person on TV to give the effect that they are on TV.  The video would be connected to the lyrics that I would make along with the instrumental. It would tell various storys of how the world is falling apart and affects everyone. The overall message that I would be trying to get across within the video is that the world is suffering and needs help from people as everyone is in it together.

Denied Permission

It has been well over a week since I sent out emails requesting to use certain music in my video and I ahve not heard a response. I am therefore going to decide that I am not going to try any further to get copyrighted music but instead create a music video based around non-copyrighted music using websites such as royalty free, as this seems the best way forward for my project

Saturday 7 November 2015

Mind map of main ideas

Here is my mind map for the ideas I think would be best to do for my music video. I think these would be the best ideas to use because they could all be done within the restrictions that we have and I also find would also find making these ideas very enjoyable. They also fit in well with the research that I have gathered on music video.

Asking for music permission

I would like to use certain songs from artists that are signed to a label in my music video however I will need to try and get permission from the artist/record label therefore I will need to email them to see if this is possible.

Here are screenshots of my emails requesting permission to use electronic music from the label Ellum Audio and music from the artist Childish Gambino. If these get accepted then I may choose to use this genre of music in my video.

Conclusion for research on Print based album advertisements

I have learned quite a lot from the research that I have gathered from the print based album adverts. One of the most important things i've learned is that the genre that the album is in needs to reflect on the advert to ensure that the audience understands what they would be getting into while also being enticed and would feel like it would be worth buying. I've found that many albums with an upbeat sort of tone use vibrant colours to attract the audience and to make the album eye-catching. This however is contradicted by albums with a more mellow tone which use more black colours so that the audience understands the tone a lot better and would not be disappointed. This overall leads me to the conclusion that print based album advertisements do try to convey to themes of the albums and giving a sense of he tone without revealing too much meaning that the audience wants to know more about the album and therefore purchases it.

Furthermore, the font is also very important in trying to connect with your audience. From what I have researched it seems that the name of the artist is one of the largest parts on the poster and so try's to convey to the audience that it is that specific artists album which would immediately attract people that have liked there past material. Also, the font itself is very different for each poster that I have looked at but they usually go with something that fits what else is going on in the poster for example, the Coldplay album had so much crazy and wild colours going on that the font only added to this by being one of the biggest objects on the poster.

Conclusion for research on Music Videos

From my research on Music videos I have learnt a lot of information on how to create an interesting video. When I was doing my research I ddi not have my idea on what I wanted to do fully developed and so I researched a wide range of music video genres and style to help me get a better understanding and concept of what I want to do. All the videos that I researched all in some shape or form related to the music and connected with the music on a certain level. I therefore will need to think how I can incorporate certain music into my video so that it works well and connects with what the audience is expecting from that kind of video. Furthermore, this connection with the music seems to be mostly done by using the Mise en Scene to your benefit. For example Michael Jacksons 'Billie Jean' does this brilliantly by creating a dark street corner to go with the dark beats and mysterious lyrics, all to create a brilliant video. In addition to this, a lot of music videos do almost turn into a short film with how they try to tell a short story. I like this idea that a story cane made through the use of images and music alone and so I may integrate this idea into my own music video.

Conclusion for Digi-Pack research

I have now finished all of my research into Digi-packs and so I will summerise here what I have learnt.

The typography used for all of the Digi-Packs is used very effectively as this is a key part of how the audience will view the product as a whole. The text is usually enlarged to some extent and is very dominant within the whole picture and so I will want to make sure that mine is large and relates well to the project as well so that I meet the codes and conventions of real media products. In addition to this, the colour scheme on each of the Digi-Packs that i have looked at are always designed to go well with the genre of music that it is in. I believe this has been done to familiarise the audience with what they are going to expect and so I will want to ensure that the colours that I choose to use on my Digi-Pack also correspond to the genre of music that is used within my music video so that I have combined both my ancillary and video texts to create a good solid overall product.

In addition to this, many of the Digi-Packs that I looked at also include large images within the framing of the Digi-Pack. I think that this gives a great effect on the overall text as it really grabs the audiences attention and intrigues people not listening to the album. This image usually creates the main tone of what the album represents and so I will need to make sure that when I am creating imagery for my Digi-Pack that I also represent the style of music that is themed around the text including the music video. Also, the spacing of the track lists are always clear and concise on the back of the Digi-pack. I will need to remember this for when I am creating my Digi-Packs as it will be crucial that it looks clear and concise so that the audience can understand the concept and themes that I am going for.

Self evaluation on work so far

We are now over 2 months into the course and so it is time to reflect on the work that I have done so far. Firstly, I would like to say that I have not worked to my full ability during the course and so has lead to me being behind in most of the coursework. I have done very minimal work in terms of planning my music video and so this has set back the time for which I can start shooting my music video. I have a vague idea of what I want to do and have created most of my storyboard which has yet to be posted on this blog. I initially created a mood board in the planning phase which helped me set goals for what I wanted to include in my video. This however has taken a downward spiral as I have now discovered that I do not really want to portray the ideas that were presented in my mood board. Furthermore, the research which is the first stage of the coursework is still yet to be fully completed. To start with I have done most of the analysis of Digi-packs and print-based album advertisements however I have not concluded what i have learnt from this nor have I analysed not nearly enough music videos. I know that this is very bad because it is a crucial part of the research process because when i have my video created i have nothing tops ay about how I used my research to portray my video. I have some posts based of secondary research such as the history of music video and also I have collected my primary research by doing a survey with multiple responses. I still need to post about how this research has helped me decide what my project will be and so this still needs to be completed. I still need to watch some more of previous student work to get a better judgement of what makes a good music video and how to get a good grade and what not to do as well. It's vital that I complete all of the research as soon as possible so that I an move onto getting the planning done and planning my shoot. For my planning I still need to create an animatic however I will need to complete my story board completely before this gets the go ahead. In terms of a script for the music video I am currently in the process of writing the lyrics for the song, which will include an overall story arc. I also need to do some more location scouting and prepare the props that will be required. I have also completed my mock up of a Digi-pack and so will need to blog this as soon as possible. I also need to post my verbal feed back that has been given to me by my teachers for example what they have said about when I need to have my scoreboard completed. Overall my time management has been terrible so far. :/

Update on Planning

With the majority of my research now complete I will now be looking ahead to plan my music video. I have already completed a mood board and have conjured up some rough ideas for my music video. One of these ideas is that I would hold up signs in front of the camera while what is being talked about is being displayed in the background. I am currently working on a storyboard for this and will hope to have this done as soon as possible. If I still believe that this idea can work then I will go ahead with it. I also

"Include enough to keep it interesting, but not so much that your video is manic. Avoid storylines that need logical progression or resolution. Simply changing locations is an easy way to add visual variety. Mix up your shots: Include some wide shots, some medium shots, and some close-ups. If you can come up with an overarching concept, great. Just remember to keep it simple."

This from Peri Pakroo will be crucial for my planning because when I create my storyboard I need to understand the various shot types that I am going to need to create an entertaining music video and so will need to think about this while in the planning process. She also suggests to keep things rather simple and so I will try to do this and not over complicate things.

Print based album advertisement research/analysis

This advertisement shows the full album cover with various hits on the album below. This gives it a very simple but effective look because people will instantly understand the Foo Fighters logo. The font of of the Foo Fighters text is in bold and very large to give that big impact effect on the audience that this is a big compilation album of their work. Furthermore, the release date of the album is in a big thick font which enables the audience to easily see when it will be released. This therefore does a very good job of advertising what this album is and when it will be available. The red Foo Fighters logo is also a common colour used within the rock music genre itself and so informs the audience that this album is a collection of their best rock hits. The positioning of the Foo Fighters logo is right in the centre of the advert and is also the most vibrant thing on the advert, drawing the audiences attention straight to that area of the advert.

This album advertisement is very out in the open with its concept and image. It uses very bright and unique colours such as purple to draw the audience in and to make it seem like generally a very colourful album with colourful music. The font that displays the band name is very large and takes up most of the advertisement and so you can tell from this that the main name is to get the name of the band out there for people to see. The colour of the band name also contrasts with the name of the album as one is white and one is black. This could convey that they will talk about conflicting emotions within the album and therefore further sets the tone of the album for the audience.

Here the audience will immediately be drawn in to the strange image which takes up the whole advertisement. This could of been done because it is an electronic album and so could contain random music which is complied together. This means that the advertisement is explaining to the audience what the album is like. Furthermore, there are also very bright colours within the advertisement including the text of the artists themselves. This conveys to the audience that it is not a very dark album and actually is very light hearted overall. The fact that the monkey is in space may also question the audiences sense of reality and relates to some of the tracks on the album such as 'Where's your head at' where the title speaks for itself.

This print based advertisement instantly stands out as very brightly coloured and white in colour. This keeps it very simple as there are only 3 colours in the whole advertisement. White,Black and light blue. The black therefore contrasts with the rest of the advert and could infer to the audience that there is a darker side to the album. This print based album advertisements main focus is the artist 'wretch 32' as he is the dominating figure within the advertisement. He could be trying to tell the audience that the album is about him and him alone which is why nobody else is in sight. The text of the artist is also in a graffiti like font and so tells the audience that there is a gangster side to him. The album name text however is very straight forward and bold to signify that he wants to make a statement. This also features some of the artists that feature on the album in smaller text to attract the audience even more.

This print based advertisement indicates that the artist Jessie J wants to put herself out there straight away because pretty much the whole poster is covered by her face. Furthermore, the text of the artist stands out from the rest of the black colour of the poster as it is in a thick gold colour font further depicting the idea that they want to let the audience know who the artist is and that they are a flashy and bright kind of person. In addition to this, about 25% of the advert contains text which talks about the single 'Price Tag; which was an international hit and put the artist on the map. This is a very big ploy to get people to buy the album because most people liked that single and so they would then hope that the rest of the album would be like that because it is advertised as such. This si the pop genres way of advertising because they already have the benefit of all ready having hot singles to help push the sales of the albums.

Here is a print based album advertisement from an indie rock band. You can instantly tell the ambitions of the album by eh use of wild imagery by having a heart in the shape of a grenade that is bleeding. This infers that the advertisement is going for a specific target audience and that would be people into hard-core rock/ rock as a whole. This is because overall it is presenting violent imagery and so this kind of imagery is only displaced on rock albums really. This advertisement is also kept rather simple by only having three colures total: Black, red and white. These all allude to the violent side of the album that the audience would be expecting and it is kept simple so people can just understand it and get it. The font is also very large however the artist font is slightly larger than the album title showing they want to present themselves as a large band. The colour of the font also links to the hand indicating that the hand is the band and that the grenade is the American idiot. this depicts the idea that the band are going to grab America and talk about is problems.

This print based album advertisement is of the artist Ed Sheeran who is mainly a soul song writer who uses soft guitar chords within his songs. I think that this is depicted very well within this advertisement because it uses very warm feeling colours and just has a sense of joy about it with an undertone of sadness. The only image in the poster is of the artist himself who further helps bring these warm feelings together with a slight smile but seems hesitant at the same time. This advert is also interesting in the fact that it only subtly indicates what the album is called by putting a small plus sign in the middle of the advertisement. This relates to the subtle undertones of the genre itself and so relates to the album on a good level. This proves to be different to other genres that advertise as the audience itself never clearly get told what album to buy. On the other hand, this could of been done just because it proves how big of an album it is that people know what it is already.

This album advertisement is for a slightly psychedelic rock genre and so this is represented within the advert. For example the bright mixture of colours gives off the idea that the album is bright in tone and so implants this idea into the audiences head. Furthermore, the artists name is in the very middle of the poster and so I realise that this is a recurring theme for many of the posters that I have analysed and so this gives me something to think about when creating my own advertisement. The album then takes a more serious tone on the bottom half as it talks about the release date and so on. This makes the release date and how you can get the album easy to see and so does very well at advertising to the audience. The font for the artist is also very different from the rest making it seem like the artist stands out from the normal advertising. This also leaves an impression on the audience because it implants the artists name into there head.

Here the Stone Roses use a very artsy kind of advertisement for their album. It contains lots of wacky colours being thrown around like paint to indicate the craziness of the album. The font of the artists is in thick black and bold as if they are making a statement about who they are. It is also the same font as the name of the album however they are on opposite sides of the advertisement with the whacky colours splitting them apart. This could be telling the audience that this album is not the same kind of rocky music they are used to and instead they go for something quite alternative and unique. On the other hand, the positioning of the text 'The Stone Roses' is outside of the mess going on in the middle which suggests that they are out of that mess and it was only used to grab the audiences attention in the first place.

Mylo Xylto is an alternative rock album produced by Coldplay. This album cover straight away implys that this is a very happy album because of all the wild bright colours that are used. Furthermore, these colours are very eye catching to any audience and will make people look at it at least for a bit. The title of the album is presented in a very different way in comparison to the other album adverts that I have looked at. It is in a very large font covering most of the advert and also is just an outline of letters making it seem almost transparent in comparison to the rest of the colourful advert. This is a great example of using visuals to catch the eye of the audience and therefore is marketed very well. On the other hand, this may only be done to fit with the themes within the album and so if someone purchases this then they will be pleased with what they were expecting in the album. Theres also a bright explosion behind the title of the album and so this indicates the destrucitve nature of the album and how they may explore themes of destruction.
